Well even in scripture we see how important patience really is. In Proverbs 14:29, Solomon says, “Whoever is slow to anger has great understanding, but he who has a hasty temper exalts folly.” Here, Solomon is not just saying patience is importance – he’s also saying what the after-effect of not having patience is. He describes the after-effect as exalting folly. Folly means lack of good sense; foolishness. Solomon is saying the impulsive decisions we make when we are impatient are wrong. So it seems like impatience is just one of the issues. Folly is the other. Moreover, if we acquire patience, we won’t look foolish.
Elsewhere, scripture tells us this: “The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance” (2 Peter 3:9). Right here says it all. We should be patient because God is patient with us! Can you imagine what it would be like if God was an impatient God? Just imagine God as your personal drill sergeant, yelling in your ear telling you are not quick enough, you are not understanding this as you should, etc. Who would want that? This would cause many to leave him. Well as Christians, are we not called to be like Christ? In 1 John 2:6, it says “Whoever says he abides in Him ought to walk in the same way in which He walked.” We are called to be like Christ! Christ is patient. Therefore, we should be patient.
I hope I didn't test your patience too much as you read this!
Peace of Christ,
